How to Replace an audi a1 key fob G28 Engine Speed Sensor

This sensor is located at the top of the transmission above the flywheel ring gear. It transmits a signal to the ECU through a grey wire T55/49, then to the tachometer located on the instrument cluster.

The grey wire is located on the edge of transmission, directly above the flywheel ring. The sensor sends signals through the grey wire to pin T55/49. The ECU then uses this information to control the flow of fuel, timig and boost. It also sends an alert to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster.

The sensor serves as a reference for comparing with the G40 Camshaft Position Sensor. The ecu must know when the crankshaft is TDC and where the camshaft is so it can trigger spark and injectors in the right way.

If this sensor fails when it fails, the ECU will display a P00160 error message. This means that the Crank Shaft is not in sync with the Intake Camshaft. It could also indicate an issue with the chain or a jumpy chain link in the upper timing chain. The code won't show without the additional information provided by other sensors (G4 or G40).

Testing is a bit challenging as there are two different connector pins and they have different functions but the best method to test it is to measure resistance between the sensor and the ECU. It should read around 1000 ohms when it is operating at its maximum. If you're having issues with this part, check for evidence of oil or coolant in the connector bay.

2. Injectors

Yesterday, while accelerating from the highway paytoll at full speed, i noticed a huge reduction in power. It was like the engine had run out of gas. Or my injectors were not firing. This morning i pull out the spark plugs. Three were drenched in gazoline, the 4th one was dry. When I start the engine, there are no sparks i put tissue on top of each injector hole and the 3 drenched with gazoline jump out but the 4th stay shut. I checked the ground connection on ECU pins 14/55, 30/55 and 48/55. i get 0ohm. I'm assuming the issue is elsewhere.

I also tried to reset the PID with no success. The car will start when the G28 is disconnected, but it runs fine with the G28 plugged in. However, the intermittent misfire problem continues to occur at higher RPM. The coolant sensor (G62), even when unplugged, still shows a temperature of -49c. Also, i noticed that the oil pressure gauge in the cockpit shows 2 bar, whereas the actual pressure is 0.0 if i crank up the engine.

I don't know what to do. I feel like i've pretty much ruled everything else out. I'm concerned that i may have missed something. If anyone has any suggestions, please chime in! TIA!

3. Fuel Pump

The fuel pump in the g28 is activated by a signal sent by the RPM sensor. The GM-style sender is the same as the G4 and both are used in the 80 100 200, UrS and RS2 cars which is why you can easily locate one at a wrecking yard or in a local parts store. It is easy to test them - just put your DMM into resistance mode and determine the distance between pins 1 and 2 (with the bump at the connector's end facing up). They should be infinite Ohms.

4. ECU

Our 20vt turbo (3B AAN, ABY, and ADU) engines have an ECU that has to know the speed and position of the crankshaft to make decisions regarding fuel injector timing etc. In order to do this it makes use of a Crank Position Sensor (G4) and an Engine Speed Sensor (G28). If either of these goes badly, you will see codes on the diagnostic scanner that could cause engine shut down.

A malfunctioning G28 sensor could cause an inaccurate speed counter for your gearbox, a gearbox that shifts more quickly than normal, and/or a misfire in gear. If you experience any of these issues, it is most likely that your sensor is failing and needs replacing. The good news is they are very cheap and readily available particularly when you're looking at a Bosch sensor, which is what we have. Alternately, GM's version this part is an option.

5. Tachometer

A malfunctioning engine speed sensor could be the reason behind many problems in your vehicle. It is an important part of the transmission of your audi key replacement, as it transmits information to the ECU regarding how fast or slow the engine is spinning. This sensor could cause the transmission to fail and other components of the car to be affected.

The G5 engine speed sensor is located at the edge of the transmission, above the flywheel ring gear. It sends a signal directly to the ECU at pin T55/49 via a grey wire. The ECU uses this signal to control the flow of fuel and boost and also to timigrate. It also transmits it to the G5 Tachometer located in the instrument cluster. You can test for sensor failure by examining the continuity from the sensor to the tachometer. You can also check continuity between pin T55/49 of the ECU and pin T6a/1 of the instrument cluster (trace [79]) and between pin T6a/1 and pin T26a/12. You should detect a resistance of approximately 1000 ohms in these areas.
